The biggest threat to wooden fencing in the UK is the dreaded wood rot. You can notice it almost immediately as the fungus discolours the wood and eats through it. Eventually, this will completely destroy your fencing, but by applying chemical wood preservatives you can prevent this from happening or stop the rot before it causes any further damage. A water repellent should also be applied as the older your fencing gets, the more susceptible it is to taking damage from the rain. And, if you notice the surface of your fencing is rough or uneven, this is a clear sign of degradation that can be remedied by some sanding. <\/span><\/p>\n

To finish your fencing off and also make the wood look fantastic, a wood stain is the perfect choice. This is a great way to bring old fencing back to life once you\u2019ve applied the aforementioned treatments and the choice of colour is all yours. However, the wood stain should only be applied after all the other treatments have been done as the chemicals can react badly and become ineffective. A month is generally long enough to wait before applying the wood stain, but you should always check the manufacturer’s instructions first.<\/span><\/p>\n
